Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War | Satellite

I was fortunate to work on the multiplayer map, Satellite, for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War as a Point Environment Artist. I worked on this map with a fantastic team of other artists and designers, without whom none of this would have been possible.

Art Direction: Bruce Hall
Environment Art: Mayu Suzuki, Andrew Bangel, Fernando Cruz
Design/Finishing: Matt Coutras & Mike Salegui
Lighting: Jason Keith
Fx: Mike Chub & Brian Shimamoto
Production: Ricky Yoon and Kali Wakley

My primary responsibilities on this map were establishing the look of the rock formations based on the scanned data we collected. Propagating that look to several of the rock structures around the map. Working with outsourcing and the internal team to make sure the work being done worked towards Art Directions vision of the map. Ensuring that as the map developed that we keep performance and memory budgets in mind.

I was involved in the photogrammetry trip to scan the rock assets for this map, as well as handled their processing. Game assets were generated by our Environment Team and placed in the map by everyone involved based on their assignments within the map. I handled the final visual unification of the scanned assets as well as their tuning for performance.

The terrain materials and biome were created by Mayu Suzuki and detailed by Mike Salegui. Final tuning and adjustment of the biome was done by me in the end stages of the map’s development.

The maps vista was a joint effort between Matt Coutras and myself. Matt was focused on the terrain while I focused on the biome rules and cliff formations.
